Extras - Timely Persuasion

Deleted Scenes > Self Interactions > Further Explanation

Sensing I wasn't being told the entire truth, I sought to confirm and asked "Are you saying younger us 'would' blow you off, or 'did' blow you off?  I think you've already tried and failed."

"That's more than I wanted you to know at this point since I don't want to directly effect your decisions, but let's just say you're on the right track.  I can't go back to do it as I've already been there, but you still can since you haven't."

"Isn't that what you just told me not to do?" I asked.

"This is different.  You can't go back to when I injected you, as that can't be prevented.  But my other trips were no good.  We'd be tidying up the flow a bit, erasing the visits from oldest you and replacing them with a visit nearer your own age.  With little more than a year of separation, you two will practically be twins."

This was actually making sense in a remarkable way.  The new problem would be the interaction with my actual self who would for certain know that I was him at first sight.  I think I'd lose my mind if I was the unknowing younger participant.  I didn't feel the need to discuss this with my older self, knowing he was probably already thinking similar thoughts.  If I would later decide it was best to have a go at it this way, it wouldn't hurt to trust my instincts and run with it.

Older me did his smile and nod as he followed my thought process.  He finalized the plan like this:

"I'm going to make an appointment to meet you one month from today at this same place to tell you about the new life of our sister.  That way you'll know if your changes are good or not.  I'll be in the strange position of knowing both timelines, since they'll change around me and I would have lived through them.  You'll remember both timelines also, and be able to track any errors on your own."

This worried me:  "But if you live the new timeline, won't we risk that none of this had ever happened?  And how will you know to travel back to visit me?"

"Your worries aren't unfounded, as we're basing this all on theory.  I think that I should remember both timelines since I set this into motion.  If I don't, you can still keep the flow intact by repeating my steps when you grow up to become me.  Might make it tricky for you to figure out if you've succeeded or not without me around to give you a rundown of events, but a worthy risk for the greater good."

Again I was lost, but decided to take his word for it.  And again I realized that I had to actually speak aloud in order to talk to myself.  "I'm lost, but I'll take your word for it."

And so it began...
